The data centre

pt1 is a hall in a carrier-neutral data centre in Carnaxide, on the western edge of Lisbon. Its power comes from Portuguese wind and solar farms under long-term contracts. Two feeds reach the hall, with batteries and generators behind them.

Outside air cools the hall for most of the year, with adiabatic cooling on hot summer days.

Three upstream carriers reach the building on separate fibre routes, and the region peers at GigaPIX, the Portuguese internet exchange. Submarine cables to Africa and South America land at Sesimbra and Sines, south of the city.

The region suits services for Portugal and Spain, and services that reach Brazil or West Africa over those cables. Milan is 29 ms away, Vienna 38 ms and Copenhagen 41 ms.
