The data centre
dk1 is a hall in a carrier-neutral data centre in Ballerup, a suburb west of the centre of Copenhagen. Its power comes from Danish offshore wind farms under long-term contracts. Two feeds reach the hall, with batteries and generators behind them.
Outside air cools the hall for most of the year. Heat pumps lift the heat it carries away into the district heating network of the western suburbs.
Three upstream carriers reach the building on separate fibre routes. The region peers at DIX, the Danish internet exchange, so traffic to Danish networks stays in the country.
The region suits services for Denmark, Norway and the south of Sweden. Riga is 13 ms away, Tallinn 15 ms and Vienna 19 ms, so three regions sit within 20 ms.
